18A – Create a Customer Avatar

 My Avatar: My Avatar is approximately 55 years old. They are semi-retired, and are looking forward to full retirement by the time they turn 60. They are upper-middle class socio-economically and have save diligently into retirement accounts. They moved from the city to the suburbs in the when they were in their 30's, and have since payed their house off. As a result, a large portion of their net worth is invested into their primary residence. They have several kids and multiple grand kids who they want to spend more time with in retirement. Their hope is to be able to live near family until they die. Both they and their spouse are healthy for their age- they walk daily and don't have any major health issues.

What I have in common is that my avatar is very similar to my own relatives in this age group. I don't think this is a coincidence- this type of customer is what gave me the idea for my business.

    Hi Zach. I liked the amount of detail you put into describing your prototypical customer. I could visualize the type of person you were describing. I would have liked to see an image or images of the type of customer you were describing. Images would have given a bit more detail and made the post more fun. Ideas are typically generated by problems we have or the problems of people we know. You did a good idea of relating to and describing the connection between yourself and your customer.

Reading: How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still win Big  by Scott Adams 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?  The general theme is to not think of failure as failure, but to see it as a learning opportunity. As cliche as that sounds, Scott Adam's brings depth to the discussion by emphasizing how we need to recognize failure as an essential rung on the ladder to eventual success. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? Many people have misconceptions about what an entrepreneur is, and what you need to do to become an entrepreneur. Elevator Pitch No. 3

1) In my last pitch, I talked to fast and didn't communicate my product super effectively. 2) I slowed my speech and made it much shorter. My product is hard to understand for some consumers, and it does more harm than good to try to explain it in 90 seconds. For this reason, I decided to try to relate my product directly to the current volatile environment, in an effort to connect emotionally with my customer.
